GCF (Grand Central Foods) has a nice atmosphere but seems to lack is a lot of other things, I dont like that the meat department is the first thing you encounter when going though the store, in my opinion grocery stores are poorly designed in the first place, cold items such as meats, freezer items, veggies, etc should be the last thing you get, otherwise if you are in the store for an hour and have that gallon of milk you first picked up in your cart, you've reduced the lifespan of that gallon of milk quite a bit. I always hit the dry goods first then go to the outer rims to find my cold goods. The next thing we didnt like was of course the price. We've compared to Bag and Save and some things are comparable but on staples such as milk and cheese Walmart beats both Bag and Save and GCF. Another thing that recently turned us off to GCF was Chester's Chicken. We stopped in and bought an 8 peice meal with 2 sides and were excited because we figured it had to be awesome, small town cooking always beats fast food...Well almost always..The chicken we got from chesters was average, it tasted like it had been fried too long, or been fried twice. The mashed potatoes and gravy we had were awesome, the best gravy i might have ever eaten. But the kicker was our second side. We got mac and cheese because it looked good. We were mistaken, the mac and cheese was aweful. So, your asking why does the mac and cheese matter about the grocery store? Well, the first night we had the meal we both ate the mac and cheese, later that night we were both sick, we didnt throw up but were in pain none the less. We didnt think about the food doing it as we had been working and figured we worked too hard. The next day we had the meal again for lunch, my wife had chicken and mashed potatos, I had the same thing with the addition of the mac and cheese. An hour after we finished i began to feel sick again. About an hour and a half after eating the mac and cheese i was sick. My wife on the other hand was perfectly fine. That was a bit of a deal breaker. Some of the other things that we didnt like was the selection seemed to be smaller than bag and save. Also the carry out service is nice if you need the assistance but having it for everyone just seems to be a waste of labor. Russ's Market does the same thing in Lincoln. Also, this store doesnt even have a webstie, I like to look at the local ad online so i can compare prices but its 2010 and they dont have a website yet.. Overall I prefer Walmart over both for price and selection but if i need a meat section that does requests or if i need an intown grocery store we like Bag and Save better
